About the event

Contest Summary:

The search is for the largest live oak trees in Gulf Breeze, Florida 32561 & 32563 zip codes. Funds raised by sponsorship of the contest and by the purchase of ribbon to tie around trees will be used to help continue renovation of the Benson House, one of the oldest homes in the city, bequeathed to the Society to convert into a community museum. Donations in any amount from those living out-of-town are also gratefully accepted in lieu of participation in the search, and all contributors are welcome to attend the awards ceremony.

Prize Categories, each with a Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award:

  1. Largest Live Oak-single trunk found by a person age 15 or under in 32561

  2. Largest Live Oak-single trunk found by a person age 15 or under in 32563

  3. Largest Live Oak-single trunk found by a person age 16 or older in 32561

  4. Largest Live Oak-single trunk found by a person age 16 or older in 32563

  5. Largest Live Oak-multi-trunks found by a person age 15 or under in 32561

  6. Largest Live Oak-multi-trunks found by a person age 15 or under in 32563

  7. Largest Live Oak-multi-trunks found by a person age 16 or older in 32561

  8. Largest Live Oak-multi-trunks found by a person age 16 or older in 32563

  9. Most Live Oak trees (each tree a minimum 60" around trunk) found on a single residential lot in 32561

10. Most Live Oak trees (each tree a minimum 60" around trunk) found on a single residential lot in 32563

Trees that qualify:

*Living Live Oak Trees in Gulf Breeze zip codes 32561 and 32563.

*Trees must be on private property and accessible for verification. Trees in public parks (whether city, county, state or national) or other public properties do not qualify.

*Tree size is determined by circumference (measurement around trunk) at 3 ½ feet above the ground. If the tree branches out lower than 3 ½ feet, measure below branch out point. See Entry Form re Multi-Trunk Trees. Tie the neon green ribbon around the tree, or secure ends with adhesive tape. "Thank You" to Step One Automotive Group for donating funds to purchase the ribbon for this contest!

How to enter:

Contribute $15 to GBAHS for a 15-foot span of ribbon, then fill out and return an entry form. Extra ribbon may be obtained for an additional $1 per foot, and there is no limit to the number of trees an individual can enter into the contest. Sponsorship forms, entry forms, and ribbon will be available 10am-2pm Saturdays through April 20 at the Benson House, 15 Live Oak St, Gulf Breeze, Florida  32561, or by contacting President BarbaraUdit111@gmail.com or gbahistoricalsociety@gmail.com.

Timetable:

Contest ends Saturday, April 20, 2024. All entry forms must be postmarked or submitted by 5pm that day. See entry form for mailing address and drop-off locations. All participants are invited to the awards ceremony on National Arbor Day, Friday, April 26, 15 Live Oak Street, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561 at 5 pm. See you there!
